don’t be afraid of the dark

Dark walls always seem to take a back seat to the light and airy white walls. We made a last minute decision to add black walls all throughout our home and I’m so glad we did. Originally I planned for a wall of tile behind this tub area, but the added costs and permanent feeling of tile made me rethink that decision. With paint, I knew we would save money on the budget and also I wouldn’t feel the guilt when I wanted a change in the years to come.

When using black or dark walls, it’s important to keep a nice balance and create contrast with other pieces. I have always loved black vanities, but those would likely get lost on the black wall. The white of the tub and vanity gives a great pop and a timeless classic style. When using dark paint colors, it’s helpful to have a space with lots of natural light to give your room an open feeling and not feel like a dungeon.

We went with floating vanities because I couldn’t find anything that felt tall enough for us (Brian and I are both 6ft tall). These vanities got installed a bit taller than I planned but now I LOVE that they are made for us and the kiddos can’t reach up that high!
