40 Day Word Fast

40 Day Word Fast

Have you ever considered fasting your words? Our family started a new devotional plan from the Bible App last night on this very topic:

The Forty-Day Word Fast challenges us when we judge, criticize, complain, gossip, use sarcasm or negative words. Yep, those are all areas I desperately need help with most days.

I find myself teaching our children how to be nice human beings, only to realize some of their faults and failures are the very things they’ve learned from me. Sigh.

We’re reading this devotional each night together as a family and challenging one another to be kind and choose our words wisely.

Feel free to call me out if you find me being judgmental, critical, complaining, gossiping, using sarcasm (oh boy, that’s a tough one) or being negative.

The words we close every church service with on Sundays have taken on a new meaning for me this week:

Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, oh Lord, my Strength and my Redeemer.

-Psalm 19:14
