#1wordwednesday / {DISCERNING} my one word for 2019

2018 was a year of the unexpected in our family. So many changes, so many new paths. As I begin to think about 2019 and all I want this year to hold for us – my mind settled on {DISCERNING}.

The scripture that helped me in choosing one word for the year?

So give your servant a {DISCERNING} heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours? – 1 Kings 3:9 NIV – emphasis added by yours truly

After searching different versions of the Bible, I especially love how the Message Bible translate this for us:

Can you let those words set in for just a moment?

“Here’s what I want: Give me a God-listening heart so I can lead your people well, discerning the difference between good and evil. For who on their own is capable of leading your glorious people?”

I couldn’t have said it better.

Who are the glorious people it talks about at the end? For me it’s the 4 people He’s put directly in front of my face. They are the priority in this season and I need help in knowing how to lead them well.

I need a lot of help, actually.

So this year, God grant me a {DISCERNING} heart so that we may chase more fully after You.

How about you? What’s your one word for 2019? Think on it. Pray on it. Ask God to show you what He wants you to focus on in the year ahead. And let me know! I’d love to hear what word you choose.
