#funfriday / a walk on the beach

the daily Starr fun friday

“Someone made a comment to me the other day about my feet being tan. I didn’t know what to say back. “Thank you” seemed awkward. I mean, a comment like that could go one of many ways. I wasn’t sure if it was a subtle inquiry to figure out if I just hadn’t washed my feet in a while, so what appeared tan was actually dirty? Or did they think I had possibly ventured way, way outside my box and got a spray tan? Or did I have feet that had not worn shoes in so long that the sun had access to them for real?

The answer is the latter.

So, I simply replied, “When your life doesn’t require shoes, your feet get tan.”

-Lysa TerKeurst, It’s Not Supposed To Be This Way

This page from Lysa’s new book hit me hard this afternoon.

For Lysa, her tan feet represented the fact that her life had slowed down enough to not wear shoes and soak in the sun.

Sometimes we all need to slow down our crazy normal lives. I can relate to every single word.

“And that’s when it occurred to me that if you get desperate enough you’ll go all in with living slow for a while. You’ll quiet down all the outside noise so God’s voice can become the loudest voice in your life.”

-Lysa TerKeurst, It’s Not Supposed To Be This Way

Yes.

Sometimes unexpected circumstances slow us down more than we anticipated.

Brian and I blocked this week on our calendar months ago to get away for our anniversary and rest. I’d been telling friends how I couldn’t wait to get away and do NOTHING.

Little did I know that I’d bring a fever with me that would knock me off my feet literally leaving me with the physical need to stop and rest.

And now I have tan feet.

Tomorrow we trade these 80-degree temps for brisk 30s and a winter storm warning threatening snow and ice moving in directly after our landing. Welcome home!

So tonight on this #funfriday we continued the slow pace we’ve embraced all week with a sunset walk on the beach.

I couldn’t imagine anything more fitting.

Let’s go home for snow ****.
