we interrupt this blog / a letter to my love on our 15th anniversary

7 years running – I’ve come to my little keyboard and written words for our anniversary. I do it more for our children than anything. Maybe one day they’ll look back to find these letters and see a tiny glimpse into the love we shared.

December 6, 2018

To my Brain on our Anniversary,

Here we are, darling. 15.

My thoughts drift back to the night of our wedding, walking into our new home stopping to dance in the kitchen as rice fell from my dress onto the floor. The ceremony was over and time stood still as I fell into your calming embrace.

Today we embraced and held each other the same exact way. Your arms, so much more familiar now and my memory flooded with all that we’ve experienced together.

Oh, the seasons we’ve seen in these 15 years. The years passing by faster than my mind can comprehend. How has it been 5 years since our 10th? Ah, the years seem to be picking up speed. Time waits for no one, indeed.

As our children read this letter in the coming years, I want them to know the love we shared – every single day. The adventures we journeyed. How 2018 was a year of change for our family and for our marriage. We took leaps, we jumped. We ran into the unknown with wild abandon. Together.

Here is a look back into the year that led us to #15. It was a beautiful year with so many unexpected turns. Remember.

Long ago, far away
Life was clear, close your eyes

Remember is a place from long ago
Remember filled with everything you know
Remember when you’re sad and feelin’ down
Remember turn around

Remember life is just a memory
Remember close your eyes and you can see
Remember think of all that life can be
Remember-

One year ago, December 6, 2017 – our 14th Anniversary

December 24, 2017 – Christmas Eve with our 3 greatest gifts

January 17, 2018 – our last big snow on Kiddle Lane (also Brock looks like Ralphie’s brother!)

January 30, 2018 – stopping on Brief Road to take a selfie with our Rezoning sign for our dream – the Old Haigler Inn.

Feb 20, 2018 – my 37th birthday – Venice Beach, California

Still my birthday. We rented a convertible and cruised along the Pacific Coast Highway all day and landed in Malibu for our last night in California. This was the end of our annual Keller Williams conference and it was the perfect ending for our west coast adventure.

We stopped for our FAVORITE sandwiches in the world – Earl of Sandwich.

April 1, 2018 – you had a beard. Needed to document that for everyone. No April fool’s here!

April 23, 2018 – date night in my parent’s home we’re renovating

April 26, 2018 – it’s official – the Old Haigler Inn is coming to Mint Hill, NC! Also, Brian still has a beard.

May 10, 2018 – Red Day – the annual day of service volunteering with our KW family. Also, Dad’s birthday ❤

June 12, 2018 – Moving Day – leaving 4704 Kiddle Lane, our home for the past 12 years

June 28, 2018 – date night at the Knight’s. We LOVE date nights.

August 7, 2018 – crazy hair night at VBS. We never disappoint.

September 27, 2018 – my favorite date night yet – getting caught in the rain

November 3, 2018 – an adventure to the Ocoee River

November 18, 2018 – your 36th birthday – also the day we had 80 people to our home in the middle of a renovation. We are crazy. It was this night I knew we were doing what we’re created to do – creating spaces for people to gather and enjoy the simple moments. Together.

November 21, 2018 – our annual trip to the Christmas Tree farm

December 1, 2018 – wearing travel hats with you is one of my favorite things, even with the flu.

Even if managing to get dressed for dinner each night is the main event of the day, it’s been the perfect week of much-needed rest.

15 years have come and gone. This has been my favorite year yet, darling.

Here’s to many more – no matter what the unexpected adventures ahead may be. I simply want to be adventuring with you by my side.
