In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat – for he grants sleep to those he loves. Psalm 127:2 NIV
Well, if I ever needed an excuse to sleep in…
THIS IS IT, PEOPLE!
Oh, and that darn part about staying up late. Why did THAT part have to be included??
Here’s the thing – God desires for us to rest.
When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. – Proverbs 3:24
In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety. – Psalm 4:8
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30
Our bodies need it. Our minds process better with it than without. Our emotions are more easily tamed when we are well rested. Amen and amen said any mom who has gone off on her kids way too many times because she’s running on too little sleep!
I would certainly know.
Believe me, this post is all about Starr preaching to Starr. I’m the poster child for not getting enough sleep these past few weeks and my body is paying for it now. My immune system is shot and I’m just flat out tired, y’all.
If you struggle with getting rest like me, let’s stop right now to #slowitdownSunday and ask God for help.
God, please grant me sleep.
Help me protect my much-needed rest. Help me put down my phone, quiet my mind, and fall into a sweet slumber in Your arms.
Show me the value each day in getting rest and open my eyes to Your ways for my life.
When I’m tempted to do too much and give up my sleep, convict me and cause me to pause and listen to Your voice.
Let my actions and habits each day reflect a child of God who is living on purpose for You and You alone.
Now, go to bed and get some sleep people!
