Honestly, our kids have been the real troopers the past few weeks during our live-in renovation.
They have put up with piles of stuff being moved here, there and everywhere. And most days, their bedrooms have been stacked full of boxes while we make room for everything to be shifted (this is a reality when you’re replacing floors and EVERYTHING has to be moved).
For example – the current REAL-LIFE situation in our girl’s bedroom:
I’m starting on their room first thing tomorrow morning, btw.
Earlier today Brock could not sit in his bedroom floor. There was a curvy path from the door to his bed. It’s been like that for over a week and this mama had to finally just start somewhere. It seemed too overwhelming to tackle at one time, but I hunkered down and spent a few hours clearing out.
Tonight my sweet boy said, “Thank you, mommy, for cleaning up my room!”
You’re welcome, darling.
Here’s the thing. You might feel overwhelmed like me and maybe you can’t get it ALL cleaned up.
Confession. I couldn’t get it all cleaned up either. I just contained the mess for now. Here is the other side of the room. Don’t laugh.
There is a method to the madness. Tomorrow we have painters coming to start on all our main living areas so the bedrooms still have to hold some of our storage until I can begin to rearrange things and put our house back together. Also, we’re living here in this cottage temporarily until our home is built and I have decided there are certain items we don’t need to unpack. Those items are headed to the attic until we relocate next year.
My goal is to have their bedrooms cleared of the extra storage stuff by Christmas. That is doable for me!
Also – here is my biggest win of the day.
Brock’s closet doesn’t have a light.
Up until recently, it hasn’t been that big of a deal. I’d open the shades and let the natural light come in when needed.
Now that it gets dark early, the entire room just seems SO DUNGEONY!
So, I added a floor lamp.
Oh, yes! So much better!
The closet doesn’t have an outlet, but I ran the cord through the door and to the wall right outside the closet. Perfecto.
Happy Monday, y’all!
