These words jumped off the screen as if they were meant for me in this very moment. Words to calm my soul on this #slowitdownSunday, words to heal my weary heart:
31 What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.
34 “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.
Matthew 6:31-34 The Message Bible
What not to do:
Don’t be preoccupied with getting.
Don’t worry about missing out.
Don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow.
Respond to God’s giving.
Live fully in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions.
Everything you’re concerned about will be taken care of.
Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now.
Allow God to help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.
If we could, I’d invite you to come and sit in this chair beside me while we listen to the waves hitting the shore. Just relax.
I needed these reminders tonight as I fight the need to keep up. It’s exhausting when I let things get out of control. So many days I get lost in keeping up.
Keep up with social media.
Keep up around the house.
Keep up with being a mom and wife.
Keep up with our business.
Keep up with my own self-imposed expectations of what I should be doing.
What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax…
Enough said, friends.
