#shareitsaturday / one of my favorite DIY cleaning hacks

the daily Starr share it saturday

I learned this amazing DIY cleaning hack many years ago when I helped a family friend clean new construction homes one summer in college.

YES! If you’ve ever tried to clean a slate fireplace surround, you know that it seems impossible and still looks dirty.

UNTIL…

Oh, yes. Baby oil.

Don’t laugh. Brian and I have had this EXACT bottle since our very first home that had a slate fireplace surround (that’s 2003). Note the “new scent” – it’s been out a while!! We’re almost out. Time to get another bottle!!

#shareitsaturday tip of the week: You can clean almost anything that is black and you want a shiny finish with baby oil. I just wouldn’t recommend floors, that would be bad!!

Our fireplace is looking all pretty now. I just need to find the goof off to get rid of those paint marks from where we took the old mantle down. It’s in a box somewhere, lol.

  1. Gurl….i use the cooking spray on stainless steele appliances….great on removing the finger prints and not oily. Keeps it from smudging up everytime you tough it too! I spray it on a cloth and wipe it down.
