This blog post should really be called, “Freida’s Top 5 Packing Tips!” because my mom is a GENIUS when it comes to packing.
Fun Fact: My mom has moved 28 times in her life. TWENTY-EIGHT TIMES, people. She knows how to pack. THE expert, indeed.
So, here we go – “our” Top 5 Packing Tips:
#1 – It’s ok if the kids just sit in front of the TV while you pack. TOTALLY OK!!! Don’t worry, I have plenty planned for later this week/weekend, so their brains won’t completely turn to mush.
#2 – EGG BOXES ARE AMAZING!! Hint, this helps if you know people in the egg business that can hook you up with egg boxes…
#3 – Label ALL boxes with index cards, Sharpies and packing tape! The movers were completely impressed with my mom’s labeling system when they arrived to move. Mark the location on each card and then the contents. GENIUS! Bonus if you use intelligent words like “stuff”.
#4 – Keep boxes with no lids to pack big bulky items – especially in the kitchen. These came in especially handy to pack large pots and pans. I have them loaded and ready to go on the kitchen counter.
I would also like to make a point that OUR ENTIRE KITCHEN HAS BEEN PACKED. Empty. And we’re 5 days out. Guess that means I can’t cook!!! HAHAHAHA. Yep, I planned that.
#5 – Pack food/pantry items in open crates. Another genius idea from mom. Having these items set aside will keep you from having to go through loads of boxes to find food and essentials for the kitchen. We’re all gonna be tired of fast food once we get moved in and the food will be readily available to put away first when we arrive.
Bonus: this generic tape from Wal-Mart is the best packing tape EVER!
I’m sure we’ll have plenty more educational tips to provide once we finish the great Haigler move of 2018!!! Stay tuned!
