I read this article about a week ago and I’m not gonna lie, the words made me sick to my stomach. The more I read, the sicker I felt.
This is #trashouttuesday and it’s time for all of us to wake up.
#1 – are you recycling? If not, PLEASE START NOW!
#2 – we can ALL DO SOMETHING. Small steps do matter.
As for our family? We recycle and I take it seriously.
Items that can be recycled do not get put into our trash. Most days they collect on the end of the counter until one of us takes time to move them into the box or the garage. And yes, we have a CRAZY amount of plastic water bottles on our counter currently – mostly from moving my parent’s in the crazy heat this past weekend. Normally we don’t use water bottles in this amount. Definitely an exception to the way we live.
We keep a diaper box under the counter for recyclables. Not sure why all those items aren’t actually in the box. Go figure.
We also put plastic bags under the counter. Those never go in the trash.
I’ll either take them to the grocery store drop off location or use them. For now, I’m saving them to use in packing our dishes.
This was today’s project of gathering all the recyclables and making sure we aren’t trashing out items that can be recycled.
We also keep a basket upstairs in our bathroom because I continually noticed items getting thrown away in our bathroom trash that could be recycled too.
Plastic bottles, cups, wrappers, etc. Create a place for those items to bypass the trash!
Now I’m ready to take it to the next level. I’m starting to consider the items I buy in the grocery store – what can I buy with less packaging? What can I buy that creates less waste? We all have to do something. Our beautiful world is drowning and it’s not good at all.
