Today we celebrate! 24 years ago this week, my Mom and Dad took on a new adventure that forever changed the path of our family.
My dad became my Pastor.
And I’m obviously confused…I thought it was 25 years based on my dad’s fb post (below), but yeah, it’s actually 24…y’all know me and numbers…
Up until this point, he’d been a high school band director and the Minister of Music at our church for as long as I could remember.
Then, he felt God calling him into full-time Pastoral ministry and we got assigned to our first church. We walked in the door of New Life Church of God in Monroe on the first Sunday in May 1994 – and there were 13 wonderful people!!
Oh, how I wish I had a photo of this day!
There was no youth group. I was the only teenager.
There was no fancy building. The only bathroom was in the back corner and you could hear people flush as dad preached (not a joke).
Our congregation was small. That didn’t matter when it was EXACTLY where God lead us.
These 24 years of ministry have had many exciting adventures and many unbelievably hard struggles. Still, I wouldn’t change a thing.
Through it all, God has been faithful. And without these struggles, we wouldn’t be the family we are today. We have seen God work through situations and through people and through circumstances where the enemy wanted to win. Situations where others would give up and walk away.
God had other plans. Plans to restore. Plans to keep us in His arms. Plans to give us Joy, hope, and a future.
Dad, I’m so thankful you were obedient to the call of God in your life. I know now, more than ever, what it’s like to step out in faith and do something scary. Your example in ministry has given me the inspiration to follow after the call of God in my own life. I’m so grateful to be your favorite oldest daughter and that God has allowed me the privilege of you being my Pastor. I can’t wait to see what is ahead!
And Mom, Dad was exactly right when he said in church this morning how you are the most even-tempered person we know. You are always the same, no matter what, full of grace, patience, and kindness. We all need to be more like you. AMEN to that. Thank you for putting up with us and for loving us well and being an amazing mom and Grammy.
Happy beginning of your 25th year of Ministry, Mom and Dad!
