#1wordwednesday / {SIX} years ago this week, I left corporate America

{SIX} years.

How does time fly by so quickly?

It was six years ago this week that I decided to leave an amazing Communications job with AXA-Equitable (it really was a dream job with a dream boss I might add, MK), and step out into a new adventure with Brian.

Here’s the note I wrote 6 years ago to my office – I kinda like to think of this as my first ‘blog’Β post –Β hahah!

In recent months, I was asked about my big “why” in life. Why do you do what you do and what is your ultimate motivation? What drives your actions everyday, what gets you out of the bed in the morning?

The faces of the three people in this photo with me are my absolute everything – my big “why”.

As I look back over the past four years as a mother to our daughter Kayla, I hate to say that I have regrets of how I sometimes spent my time and energy. There were days when I could have done better and I am sure that will always be the case – trying to create that fine balance of a professional career and a mother.

All of this being said, it is bittersweet that I have decided to resign my position at AXA Equitable. People that know me best will know that this is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in my life. I love my job, what I do, the people I work with… but, something inside of me is pulling to take this opportunity while I can. The last thing I want to do is look back in 5 years and have the same regrets.

I will be focusing the next few months on helping my husband’s business as a Realtor. His team is now at the place where they need someone to support their marketing and communications…does anyone know someone with those skills?!??! For the past few weeks, I’ve actually been going through Real Estate school and as of this past Monday afternoon I officially became a licensed NC Real Estate Broker!! (AND, there was MATH involved…yikes!!!!! Don’t worry – I don’t think Brian and Jay will be trusting me to go measure any houses for square footage anytime soon!)

I absolutely leave AXA a better person for the experiences that I’ve had. It is with great excitement that I join my new family at Keller Williams Realty. Who knows, maybe I’ll be the next star on HGTV?? Hey, a girl can dream, right? πŸ™‚

Brian and I are thrilled to take this next adventure in life. God has blessed our family, his business and we are ready for the ride! We were made for this moment, for this time and for HIS purpose.

WOW.

This note does something to me everytime I come back to read these words. It reminds me of why I do what I do. It reminds me to not lose focus. It reminds me to picture those little faces every single day and how they depend on me.

These days, there are 2 more beautiful brown eyes watching my every move.

Oh, how I want them to learn to chase adventure and to go after their dreams. We only have this one life.

Six years and here we are walking into our next adventure! I told someone the other day how I compared the past six years to being like the children of Israel and wandering in the wilderness. I couldn’t really figure out my purpose. It was so gray and so cloudy for SOOO long. I was just wandering, aimlessly at times.

Well, the promised land is on the horizon and we’re getting ready to cross the Jordan!!

I can’t wait to see what the next {SIX} years bring.

How about you? Have you thought about your big why and why you get out of the bed each morning? It’s not too late to find your purpose and set out on a new adventure. The views are incredible.

  1. Time passes so quickly. I left the corporate world 10 years ago this past March. It was a joy to have worked with you at AXA and agree when you say that we learned a LOT but I’m happy to say that life is a bit more balanced not being there.
