#1wordwednesday / haigler {HABIT} : love the unlovable

the daily Starr blog Starr haigler 8

It’s easy to love people that are lovable. We can do that allll dayyy longg.

More and more, I’m longing to teach my kids to do the things in life that aren’t easy. I want my kids to be the people that do the things no one else will do.

Today’s Haigler Hospitality {HABIT}:

Love the unlovable.

Matthew West says it best in his song –

Show me how to love the unlovable
Show me how to reach the unreachable
Help me now to do the impossible
Forgiveness, forgiveness
Help me now to do the impossible
Forgiveness

How do we do that? How do we truly love the unlovable?

I listened to a podcast today featuring one of my favorite people – Bob Goff. He wrote the book Love Does and just came out with another book called Everybody Always.

Annie Downs interviewed Bob on her That Sounds Fun Podcast (here) and she asked him about loving people who aren’t like him – even those he doesn’t really, well, like very much.

What does Bob Goff do? Sends them cake pops in the mail!

I’m not even joking.

Now that’s fantastic. Someone you don’t like very much in your life? Love them anyway. Send them cake. Show them love anyhow.

What if the world was full of people who loved out loud like that? What if we started loving the unlovable??

I want to do that. I want my kids to see us live that out as an example. I should start making cake pop deliveries.
