Yesterday we took a spontaneous trip to the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, NC, as part of our Good Friday adventure.
Our family HIGHLY recommends that you visit if you find yourself in the area and here are our 5 reasons why you should visit the Billy Graham Library!
#1 - FREE ADMISSION
Oh, yes. Free. Free. Free. Free.
No hidden fees, here, y’all!
We love FREE!!!!
#2 - The Memorial Garden
Billy and Ruth are buried side-by-side in the Memorial Garden and this was the most peaceful place on the property. It was perfect.
There are benches all throughout the woods in the garden to sit and enjoy the surroundings. You’ll hear praise and worship music playing all over the grounds. I could have sat for hours!!
Brock – well, he doesn’t like sitting as much…
He just wanted to play, and there was plenty of room for that, too!
#3 - Meaningful Activities for Kids
Upon entering the main building, we were greeted with fun activities for our kids to enjoy during the Journey of Faith tour.
The current activity included a Resurrection Quest scavenger hunt for the kids to find items all throughout the tour that told the story of Jesus!
This kept them busy the entire time and it was absolutely perfect to guide them along.
We all loved Bessie, the talking cow!!
At the end of the tour, our kiddos got to turn in their scavenger hunts and make a little booklet with all of their completed cards. They also received free bracelets and bookmarks. Did I mention it was all FREE?!?!
#4 - The Journey of Faith Tour
This was the highlight of our trip. The Journey of Faith tour takes you from the start of Billy Graham’s life on a dairy farm in Charlotte, all through his ministry and ultimately to the plan of salvation.
The tour includes 13 galleries. Some of them are self-guided and some have timed videos that share the story as you go.
This part of the tour was set like we were actually in an old revival tent crusade in Los Angeles! This was sooo fascinating!
Then, we learned the story of Ruth Graham, how she lived in China as a child with her missionary parents.
This part of the gallery was set up like an old street in front of an Appliance store.
We got to see the impact around the world of the ministry of Billy Graham.
#5 - it's all about JESUS!
Make no mistake, the purpose of this property is to share the story of Jesus Christ.
I can see our family coming back over and over again to the Billy Graham Library.
A few pointers for your first visit:
- Give yourself a minimum of 2 hours if you plan to take the Journey of Faith tour.
- The tour may not be best for babies. We had a few in our group and they struggled. I would probably not bring any kids under 2.5 years old. Brock was about done towards the end. Unless they are asleep, it’s a LONG tour to get through with a crying baby. The entire tour and property is stroller and handicapped accessible.
- The property is open Monday-Saturday, 9:30am to 5:00pm. The last tour begins each day at 3:30pm. They are closed for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
- The Library hosts all kinds of special events throughout the year. You can find out more >here on the website.<
We hope you enjoy the Billy Graham Library as much as our family. We plan to make this an annual tradition on Good Friday. Join us next year!
