#funfriday / our new Good Friday family traditions and the best unexpected surprise

the daily Starr fun friday

Today we spent the entire day together as a family and I wanted more than anything for Good Friday to have a special meaning for us this year.

After spending a few hours running errands, we found ourselves 10 minutes from the Billy Graham Library. Even though we live right outside of Charlotte, we’ve never visited before as a family!

Guys!!! What an incredible spontaneous stop for our Good Friday #funfriday adventure!

If you have not been, YOU SHOULD GO!

Brian and I attended a meeting at the Library years ago but never had the chance to take the full tour – which was sooo worthwhile and meaningful.

There’s just too much to include in today’s post, so I’ll share more tomorrow on the blog about our entire visit and why you should take a trip soon. Oh, and did I mention it’s FREE?!?!? All the praise hands, please!

Next, we came home just before dark to continue one of our annual family traditions handed down from Glennie the Great – our Easter Egg Tree.

Every year, we would pull up to visit Glennie the Great and that little tree by the road would be full of eggs.

She attached strings to each one of them.

We still use her eggs and she would be so thrilled to know we keep the Easter Egg tree going each year.

We sure do miss you, Great!

The tree was finally full of eggs and our crew was hungry – dinner time!

I’ve had an idea for a special Good Friday dinner in my mind all week, but wasn’t sure exactly how to pull it off and what it would be like.

As the kids squeezed in the last few minutes of daylight in the backyard with Brian, I set the table with candles and made it “fancy” as the kids like to say.

We turned off all the lights and had dinner by candlelight in remembrance of what Good Friday is all about – the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross for us.

Dinner was everything I imagined and more. This is where the biggest surprise of the day came! We started talking about what we learned about Jesus today at the Billy Graham Library. Without pushing or suggesting on our part, our little Kylie started asking very direct questions about Jesus.

GUYS – Kylie asked Jesus into her heart tonight!!!!!! Look at that face of my beautiful daughter who sat crying at the table with us as the Spirit of God stirred her young soul.

That made this the best #funfriday EVER!

After we finished eating, Brian opened the Bible to Luke 23:26-56, the story of the Crucifixion.

This is what Good Friday is all about. And this day will go down as one I will never forget for our family.

I do believe we have a few new traditions to continue each year as we set aside time to remember and celebrate our Savior, Jesus Christ!
