#trashouttuesday / Week 2 – creating a dedicated space for cleaning out

the daily Starr trash out tuesday

It’s Week 2 of Starr’s Guide to Spring Cleaning challenge for today’s #trashouttuesday.

Week 1: Living Room and Kitchen (DONE)
Week 2: Office and Dining Room

After all of our success last week in the kitchen and living room, we move to the front of our house and this area has once again become disastrous (story of my life, really).

Before you judge too much, part of this mess is intentional. Is that a thing?? Intentionally messy!?!?! Yes. I just made it up.

Let’s talk about the reality of our crazy life and how this happens.

Some things need to be taken to our office – loaded them up in the car to take tomorrow. This is what it’s like to own your own business.

Part of what you see is decor we boxed up last week from the living room. I’ll explain later.

Then, we have Christmas trees that haven’t been put up because we all know how much I LOVE Christmas and this really shouldn’t be any surprise to anyone that truly knows me and loves me. Duh.

Guys.

We officially start moving items within the next 2 WEEKS to our new property!!!! Yikes. I don’t know whether to be over the top thrilled or to throw up.

This is my justification for the mess – I refuse to take items upstairs or throw them in my garage when they will ultimately be some of the first items we begin to move.

My solution – create a dedicated and organized space for cleaning out and sorting and packing.

Our dining room has become this space.

Several factors help –

#1 it’s roomy. We can spread out and make piles and everyone can help mama pack and sort.

#2 it’s right beside the front door. Easy to trash, load to the car and I have to look at it every single day for motivation.

I’m not yet finished with the dining room and office cleanout, still, we made great progress this week and for that I am proud. Small steps are still steps!!

I’ll simply continue in this area before I start on the bedrooms upstairs. Life happens and as long as we keep working towards our goals, we’re headed in the right direction!

One other self-imposed rule I’ve implemented during our Spring Cleaning challenge – only pack LIKE ITEMS together.

Have you ever moved and just thrown stuff in boxes to get it done?!?!

Oh man, been there, done that, don’t EVER WANT TO DO THAT AGAIN.

As we pack boxes I’m being selective and picky about what goes together and everything is labeled.

Look out. Who is this new Starr?? I do not know. But, I sure do like her 🙂

In case you missed Week 1, here are our results from cleaning out the Kitchen and Living Room. Goodness gracious, I cannot begin to tell you how good those rooms have felt this week!!!

Coming up for the remainder of the March Guide to Spring Cleaning  –

Week 3: Kid’s Bedrooms and Playrooms
Week 4: Master Bedroom and Closet

See you next week as we start to tackle some of the toughest areas in our home! Let’s. Do. This. Y’all.
