#thirstythursday / living up to the expectations of others…or not

the daily Starr thirsty thursday

If we could sit down tonight over a warm cup of coffee…

I’d look you in the eyes and tell you how I’m laying down every part of me that lives to meet the expectations of others.

Everyday I’m learning how life isn’t really about making everyone else happy and doing things out of obligation. That life is exhausting and I always come up short in some way or another.

It’s like one of my mentors always reminds me, “I’m willing to disappoint you in order to be obedient to Christ.” – Lisa Allen

Yes.

Sometimes I am going to fail in the expectations of others because I’m being obedient to what God is telling me to do.

Guess what?

That’s OKAY, y’all.

Whatever God may be convicting you of – may not be exactly what He’s doing in me.

Our paths are all so different. Who are we to set expectations for others when we don’t know their story?

Tonight – I’m giving myself permission to slide in closer to His arms and listen for what He wants ME to do. I need to drown out the voices of this world and those who may have good intentions for my life – to hear the one and only voice of my heavenly Father.

His voice is the one that matters.

Don’t feel guilty when you don’t measure up.
He uses a different measuring tape.

Don’t allow negativity and doubt to take over your life.
He breathes encouragement and hope.

Don’t let the enemy leave you defeated and deflated.
Joy comes in the morning.

For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. – Psalm 62:5 ESV

For God alone – my hope is from him.

  1. I am so joyful that you are at this place and are learning to know when and what you need to say ‘no’ to. It is going to be vital that you are completely in this zone before you get your retreat center open for operation. If you don’t manage to stay your course you will be overwhelmed by the center operations. I so love you and who you are becoming. I am ready to come to work in your center office.😘😜

  2. So glad to read this today. Please pray for my daughter who is having surgery on the 13th. She will be in the hospital for about 4 days and then can’t be left alone for the next two weeks. So glad God has put me in a place that I can minister to her needs. Thank you.
