#makeovermonday / my new schedule for 2018 – Monday is laundry day

the daily Starr makeover monday blog

Several years ago I read about one of my favorite bloggers who did all of the laundry for her family on ONE DAY OF THE WEEK. And one day only.

Yes, even with 3 kids (all boys, mind you), she made it happen in one day. She is my hero.

Part of her secret? Stay home. Do laundry. Protect the day – no going out to run errands, no appointments (if possible). Just stay home and do laundry. ALLL DAY LONG. Could I do it?? Wow. Seems crazy.

This idea has always been in the back of my mind and I constantly feel like I’m behind when it comes to our laundry. I also feel like my days get away from me – distractions, running here and there. My schedule has been a pain point for several years. I couldn’t quite get a grip on what is best for our home, our family and our business when it comes to my personal schedule.

2018 is my year. I’m rethinking my schedule, day by day, being more intentional with everything in my life.

I’ll share more later about the other days of the week – but for now – let’s talk about Monday.

Monday is becoming my favorite day and I thought I’d never say that in a gazillion years, especially when it had anything to do with laundry!

Last Monday I spent the day getting our laundry room cleaned out – along with the unexpected Clorox disaster.

After:

Today, I moved to the next worse place in our house. Our master closet.

Y’all forgive me – I didn’t even take a before picture this morning. I completely forgot. Just imagine it being as bad as the before shot of the laundry room up there. Maybe worse.

Here’s the after shots.

A couple of things –

#1 – yes, I still have too many clothes. Believe it or not, I’ve been purging like a maniac since January 1. What you see is the smallest amount I’ve had in years. I’m proud of myself, even if I have a long way to go still.

#2 – my shoes have stayed organized and sorted since I cleaned them out in November!! Woooohooo!! This is a WIN WIN!

The trick to keeping them neat and organized has been to give each shoe a spot and to turn them facing out where I can actually see the shoes. I have really done so much better in the shoe department. And yes, still too many. Those have been dwindling. Ask my big feet friends that I’ve been sending bags and bags of shoes to.

#3 – I spent the majority of the day going through the UNMENTIONABLES in my closet. That’s why I don’t have many photos. It wouldn’t be appropriate to show you all my neat drawers of underwear and bras. I mean, y’all. My dad gets my blog. Nope.

Instead – you can see my tank top drawers.

Every single drawer in my closet is organized just like this. I told Brian it feels like I have my own Victoria’s Secret ha! I’ve never had organized unmentionables before!!!!

I even have 3 more big drawers that are currently empty. A miracle.

At one point today I sent this photo to my sister, Chloe and Brian (we have an ongoing group text that we use every single day).

Caption in my text: “I sure do hate it when Brian leaves his side of the closet messy!!!”

HAHAHAHAH.

Y’all. The top of that cabinet hasn’t been clean on my side in YEARS!!

Who is this Starr????

The new Starr of 2018!! Boom!!

Have you ever tried to do laundry in one day? It’s rocking my world. I’ve given myself to permission to stay home, do laundry and clean out our house. For one day of the week. This is now my favorite day. I love you, Monday!

  1. I love this! Your closet looks amazing! We moved Saturday and you wouldn’t believe all the bagged hanging clothes that were mine. One of the girls helping told me they have 8 people in their house and all total they didn’t have as many clothes as I do! Well it struck me how bad it was. So I haven’t started unpacking my clothes yet because I really want to just keep what I love because that’s mostly what I wear anyways. I also want to organize too

    • Ahh thanks, friend! It’s crazy how much we accumulate. It’s eye opening. Especially when moving. I’m praying God changes our family this year with our move. I want to live differently.
