#1wordwednesday / haigler hospitality {HABITS} – people over technology

the daily Starr blog Starr haigler 8

In this ever-connected world, it’s hard to put down technology at times.

I’m guilty.

Sending that quick message. Making that fast post. Responding to that one text. I know, I know, I know. This is the life we live.

Does it mean we make a {HABIT} of putting technology before the real people in front of our face?

Part of this struggle has been the exact reason we implemented tech-free time with our kiddos each night from 6-9pm. We are holding each other accountable to put the phones down and really live this one life we’ve been given.

If I’m going to teach my children boundaries when it comes to technology, you better believe I need to live it out in front of them on a daily basis.

This week’s Haigler Hospitality {HABIT}:

Be purposeful in teaching our kids to put people over technology.

Phones, tablets, TV, whatever.

We’ll have the perfect opportunity to practice this habit as we meet up with part of our extended family that lives in another state. We don’t see them very often. The last thing I want to do is have my face planted into my phone or our kids distracted by tablets. Let’s learn to create lasting relationships instead!

Won’t you join us? Create a tech-free time each day if you struggle with distractions from technology. If you need to respond to an important message, that’s ok – step aside or out of the room and then come right back. Let’s live this out in front of our kids, family, and friends. They are watching and learning. Relationships will grow and memories will be made. Legacies will be forever changed.
