I started reading a book earlier this month that is seriously rocking my world.
It’s called The Sacred Year by Michael Yankoski.
The subtitle says it all: Mapping the Soulscape of Spiritual Practice – How Contemplating Apples, Living in a Cave, and Befriending a Dying Woman Revived My Life.
The author shares how he learned to bake bread from scratch and gives the recipe. Soooo, we gave it a try!
You only need 6 ingredients total –
Whole Wheat Flour
All-Purpose Flour
Vital Wheat Gluten
Active Dry Yeast
Salt
Water
First, combine the yeast and water in a bowl and let it sit.
Then, combine the dry ingredients into a bowl and mix well.
Combine the dry ingredients and the wet yeast mixture together to make a dough.
We left our dough in the fridge overnight.
When you’re ready to bake, cut the dough in half and form into two loaves.
You guys!! It was edible and AHHHMAZING!!!
I’m still in shock that we actually made bread from scratch! Yummy!
You can read the first few chapters of The Sacred Year (including the chapter with the bread recipe) online for free.
Here’s to trying new things and taking time for daily bread.
