“We leave something of ourselves behind when we leave a place, we stay there, even though we go away. And there are things in us that we can find again only by going back there.” ― Pascal Mercier
This quote describes us – exactly us.
For today’s #funfriday we went back to a place where we left part of ourselves behind.
18 years ago this fall, 3 young girls stepped foot onto the Lee University campus as freshmen ready to conquer the world of growing up, having roommates and eating the required food plan at the cafeteria. And 1 of the girls above did not even exist until a few months later. Wow. Just wow.
I’m feeling just a bit old, not gonna lie.
Side note- how crazy were our parents to let us all make that insanely intimidating drive through the mountains to get here??!?!? No comment needed, dad.
As we walked the familiar sidewalks, each of us distinctly remembered the day our parents dropped us off and said goodbye – and how we went right back to our tiny dorm rooms and cried our eyeballs out.
18 years later – these are lifelong friends.
Plus, a professor that is a mentor and friend.
Many times we’re tempted to forget the past and move on – especially when there were hard moments and tough lessons learned. But sometimes, we need to remember the past to see where we came from and how God has crafted every single moment of our lives.
Lord, help us see the beauty that surrounds us – in the past and the present.
“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift of God, which is why we call it the present.” ― Bil Keane
“The present changes the past. Looking back you do not find what you left behind.” ― Kiran Desai
“The past beats inside me like a second heart.” ― John Banville
