#clearthestage / I had forgotten to teach my girls the value of rest and the gift of help

This one line from today’s Proverbs 31 Ministries Daily Devotion jumped off the page for me:

I had forgotten to teach my girls the value of rest and the gift of help. - September McCarthy

Oh, how many times I’ve been there.

I forget to model for my kids some of the most important aspects of our lives.

Rest.
Faith.
Serving.
Being served.
Prayer.
Encouragement.

As I aim to #clearthestage in my own life, I want to step back and remember that my kids are watching. They see the struggles this mama has – real time. This is our real life.

They see a mama who breaks because she hasn’t had enough rest. They see a mama who struggles when she takes on too many responsibilities. They see a mama who doesn’t do well when time is running out and the to-do list is a mile long.

I want them to see a mama who stands up more to saying NO to things that don’t matter.

I want them to see a mama who values rest and protects our time at home to unwind and love each other well.

If you haven’t done so already, read today’s devotion from Proverbs 31 and be encouraged that God can absolutely use our struggles to teach our kids to trust Him more.

  1. I am guilty of this all.the.time! I try to hard and nag and nag to try and teach them dumb stuff that doesn’t even matter like put the lid down on the toilet seat and crap like that, but I’m not nearly as intentional with teaching them the life lessons that are most important :-/ Being a mom is so stinkin’ hard!
