NOTE: For the next month, I'll be taking a break from my regularly scheduled programming here on The Daily Starr. In place of makeover Mondays and trash out Tuesdays and all the other daily themes that have been my life for the past 3 years, I'm stepping aside to rest and worship and be still. Does that mean I won't be blogging?? Actually, no. I considered stepping away altogether, but this blog creates a space of accountability for me. And this girl NEEDS some accountability. If I've learned anything over the past 3 years of writing, it is that a c c o u n t a b i l i t y w o r k s. Without the personal accountability to publish each night, I would probably give up on my quest to learn the art of writing and the quirky little themes that have helped me get things done in our home and with our family. I wouldn't make time to paint furniture. I wouldn't make time to declutter. I wouldn't make time to have intentional fun with my kids. Believe me, I tried to do it haphazardly for YEARS with no success! This blog helps me work towards all those things and I'm so thankful. You'll still find me here each evening, showing up in my little space on the internet, but the focus will be different during October. I'm asking God to help me #clearthestage. And I'm inviting you to join me.
That’s enough background…let’s get started.
This is the dedication for a book I started reading today.
I’ve had friends tell me over and over and over again to read this book.
But I never did.
Then, someone brought me this journal last week:
Wow. Same author – Anne Graham Lotz.
I knew in my heart it was time to get The Daniel Prayer. God has been stirring something inside of me for the past few weeks and I’m ready for revival.
How about you?
I opened the journal and there smack on the very first page were two scriptures I’ve been reading and quoting for the past week.
Have you ever had those moments? It’s like God sends little clues to let you know He’s still there and He wants to get your attention.
Well, He sure did.
I’m listening, God.
Anne starts out the journal sharing about her childhood (she is Billy Graham’s daughter, btw). She describes what it was like on a typical day in their home. Anne’s mom would gather the children around the table after breakfast and read a scripture for the day. Then, they would drop to their knees and say a simple prayer over their day before heading off.
WOW. We’ve never done that consistently. Gather around the table for breakfast OR pray over our day.
I mean, this is Billy Graham’s family….lol.
Then, Billy would come home at night and gather the children after dinner to read a few more scriptures.
Anne attributes her love of the Word to her parent’s constant priority of reading the Bible and making it part of their daily life. That’s why she wrote this journal – to help others create that same habit.
I want that.
I want a revival for my family that makes us crave the Word. I want my kids to have a built-in desire for more of God – even at a young age. I want them to get to know the Bible in ways beyond my imagination.
I read the first chapter of The Daniel Prayer and then decided to get quiet.
Well, I was distracted by a text message first….UGH.
So, I set a timer for 5 minutes and did not allow myself to do anything. No writing. No talking. Just sit, Starr.
Is it completely sad that I had to set a timer to make myself do this?
If I’m being completely honest, I grabbed my phone to take a photo of something that caught my attention. Then I saw the timer and remembered I wasn’t supposed to be doing that!!! Terrible!!
The timer finished. Then, I prayed – out loud, speaking to God.
I told God all the things on my mind.
And I know He heard my prayers.
Have you sat and listened in a while? Set your timer. Right now.
