#1wordwednesday / haigler hospitality {HABITS} – say, “thank you!”

the daily Starr blog Starr haigler 8

Today we’re continuing our #1wordwednesday series on Haigler Hospitality {HABITS}.

Once a week we’ll introduce a simple habit for our kids to learn and challenge them to practice the habit as much as possible.

Each time they get caught practicing the weekly habit on their own we’ll keep track and ultimately celebrate our family’s progress.

Haigler Hospitality Habit #3 –

Say, “Thank you!”

There can never be enough gratitude on this earth.

Speak it out loud. Those 2 special words are so easy to say. Add a cheesy smile to your words and you can absolutely make someone’s day – in 2 seconds flat! Also, remember to speak your thankfulness in prayers to God. Many bad days and bad attitudes of my own have been turned around by focusing on gratitude. It’s hard to stay mad when you start thinking about all of the good around you.

Write it down. Thank you notes, gratitude journals, etc. Writing down our thankfulness is another step in being grateful for our blessings each day. I personally remember items when I write them down.

Do something.  Actions speak louder than words. Has someone helped you out lately? How about send a “thank you” their way? Flowers. Cards. Fruit. Candy. Baked Goods. Handmade craft. Don’t think you have to spend a fortune. There are many ways to say, “thank you!” through random acts of kindness.

It’s simple, really. But something so many bypass in our overly busy lives.

Here are real life examples of how our family is saying, “Thank you!” this week:

  • Sending a fruit arrangement to the teachers and staff at our Elementary School
  • Handwriting thank you notes to all of the people that have met with us and given advice this week on our future property
  • Saying 5 things we’re thankful for each night as we say our prayers before bed.

Join us in spreading gratitude this week!

Practice {Habit} #3 as much as possible this week. Go out of your way to say, “Thank you!” with a smile on your face. Believe me, people will notice. Say it. Write it. Do it. Give thanks.

Be true to yourself, help others, make each day your masterpiece, make friendship a fine art, drink deeply from good books – especially the Bible, build a shelter against a rainy day, give thanks for your blessings and pray for guidance every day. – John Wooden
