We started working on this house a few months ago and the kitchen was actually usable. It already had fantastic stainless steel appliances and needed a few simple updates to make it spectacular.
Our to-do list for this dark kitchen makeover included:
- Take down the wallpaper and paint the walls
- Paint the cabinets
- Replace the backsplash with white subway tile
- Replace the flooring with a lighter tile
- Install granite countertops
- Update the lighting
Y’all. This one seriously makes me want to PAINT MY DARK CABINETS RIGHT NOW.
Here’s the before and after together – just to be a little more dramatic, because I like dramatic.
Wow. Right?? Is that REALLY the same kitchen?? Yes. Yes, it is!
What a difference a little paint can make, right???
This house has me falling in love with gray paint. Yes, please.
Oh, and the dining room was a dark transformation too. How about one more dramatic before and after tonight on this #makeovermonday?
Gosh, I could just stare at these alllll day long!!! It’s seriously just paint, people. These hardwood floors were already there. This was a great house already, it just needed some brightening up and it feels completely different.

Cabinet Paint – Sherwin Williams Mindful Gray, Satin Finish
