#slowitdownSunday / what to do when someone hates you

the daily Starr slow it down Sunday

There’s something about dealing with people in life who seem to be your worst enemy.

Sometimes you just want to punch them in the face, right???

Oh, that’s just me.

It seems like everything they do – their primary purpose – is to destroy you. They build up hatred and cause arguments and lie and make your blood pressure boil.

They are a true enemy. And all you want to do is give them a piece of your mind.

Then, you go to church on Sunday morning and sing songs like, “I wanna be more like You, Jesus, I wanna be more like You. I wanna be a vessel You work through. I wanna be more like You.”

And you realize that Jesus probably wouldn’t punch anyone in the face. Or give them a piece of His mind.

Well, He did give some of the religious leaders that thought they were better than everyone else a piece of His mind, but that’s another story for another day.

Like my dad said this morning – you realize that everything you would normally do in your human nature when it comes to your worst enemy – just do the opposite. That’s what the Bible teaches us.

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.  Matthew 5:44

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.  Romans 12:14

If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; For you will heap burning coals on his head, And the LORD will reward you.  Proverbs 25:21-22

“But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men.  Luke 6:35

Do not say, “I will repay evil”; Wait for the LORD, and He will save you. Proverbs 20:22

Yep. Do the opposite.

Pray for them.

Don’t cuss them.

Feed them.

Love them.

Bless them.

Oh, bless….

God, thank you for this reminder tonight as we #slowitdownSunday and lay down our worst enemies at your feet. Help us to change our perspective. Lord, help us to truly live those words we sing – I wanna be more like You.

  1. I was given a new view of the people that are always out to take someone down. Think of them like this: you know the game where you get a club and you try to hit this animal that pokes its head through one hole after another at random places? She said they went to a carnival with a precocious 3 year old and he ran up to the table where one of these games were and ripped the curtain clean away and there under the table were adults with puppets on each arm. All that to say that the enemy is not the person but satan that has found your last nerve and is using them to divide us. Don’t be the puppet but do all the things you mentioned above. Perhaps thinking of them differently will help.
