2 things are weighing heavy on my heart tonight as we #slowitdownSunday.
First – our kids start back to school tomorrow. How is the summer already over? I’ll admit I’m not looking forward to the early alarm clock, but such is life. Our girls love their school, love to be in the classroom and are so excited about going back. I don’t want to take this moment for granted. One of these days they’ll be leaving for college and I’ll be fighting back the urge to follow them and get an apartment nearby.
Second – the images coming from the state of Texas are heart breaking, to say the least. The desperate people stranded on top of their houses, the assisted living homes with elderly people sitting in water up past their waist, unable to move. Y’all. It’s so bad. There are no words.
In moments like these, all I know to do is pray.
Lord, tonight I pray over our children as they go back to school. Protect their classrooms, protect their campus, protect their buses and cars. Send your angels to surround them at every moment. Give them servant’s hearts. Let them serve their teachers and be the biggest helpers. Let them serve their classmates and be the biggest encouragers. Help them make wise choices and when they don’t, help them learn from their experiences. Let them love like Jesus. Give them eyes that see through You. Help them to include others and reach out when they see someone down. I pray for the staff and teachers – God give them an anointing to teach and lead. Give them patience, oh, please give them patience. Help them to set the tone for learning and growing. Continue to give our children an excitement for school and help us to be godly examples at home with our attitudes and words. I put these children into Your mighty hands, Amen!
Lord, please help the people of Texas and those in the path of this terrible disaster. Send organized relief, send boats, send food, send and provide shelter. Help those that are desperate and use those that can give resources. Oh, how we need You now, Lord. Draw people to help in whatever way they can. Stir the hearts of your people on the ground to help. Send wisdom and patience and calm terrified hearts. God, help us not to forget our neighbors and remind us of the importance to help those in need around us. Send angels to protect and calm. Send relief in ways that only You can. God, we cry out to you on behalf of those in harm’s way tonight. Help this storm to cease and move off shore. We ask this in the name of Jesus.
I would encourage you to give in whatever way you can. What if this was in your area? I can’t imagine.
