It was a rainy, humid #funfriday afternoon in NC today.
Instead of braving the storms, we decided to take our weekly adventure inside and get a jump start on something we typically procrastinate about – back to school shopping!
How is it even possible this middle child of ours will be starting kindergarten in just over 2 weeks???
Don’t be jealous – we still have 2 FULL and GLORIOUS weeks of summer left, y’all!!!! Wooohoooo!! And I’m going to enjoy every single last minute of it, thank ya very much.
We gathered our school supply shopping list and two shopping carts because my goodness, these kids sure must go through some pencils and glue sticks (per the requested items list).
I’m pretty sure our kids enjoyed getting book bags more than the boring supplies like folders and erasers and such.
We’ve fallen into a few traditions when it comes to our back to school shopping.
#1 – We get a plastic crate to carry in the supplies. It’s much easier than a brown paper bag (that usually tears) or a gazillion plastic bags. Bonus – the teachers can use it throughout the year for storage in their classroom. You can find them for around $3 at Walmart or Target right now. They also come in fun colors!
#2 – We buy an extra set of supplies on the school list to donate to the classroom. We want to teach our kids to give big and the best way to do this is by example. As long as we’re able to, we want to continue this tradition. We always take the kids with us to do our back to school shopping and every time they pick out an item on the list they know to grab another one (preferably generic so it can work for a girl or a boy) and add it to our basket.
We finished up our #funfriday by letting the girls pick out their “first day” outfit. This was by far their favorite moment, of course. They wear hand-me-down clothes, so going shopping for an outfit is WAY out of the ordinary.
Kylie picked the “Super Hero” dress and silver high top sneakers.
Kayla looks like she is straight out of the 80s with her checkered shirt, hot pink and orange shorts and gold high tops!
These girls are soooo ready for their first day. This might be the first time we’ve ever been 2 weeks early for ANYTHING. 🙂
Happy weekending, y’all!
