Chloe and Joy are staying with us for the week and I’m taking full advantage of their help to do a mass purging project on this #trashouttuesday. Remember last summer when we pulled everything out of the kitchen in one day??
Who could actually forget that insaneness???
We took every single item out of every cabinet and organized it all. We only put back what we had room for and got rid of a ton.
It. Was. Magical.
I could never knock out projects like these without their help! I’m happy to report our kitchen has stayed organized for a year solid and it has been fantastically WONDERFUL!!!
Now for today’s project.
3 summers ago we cleaned out Glennie the Great’s house and had to box up all the items we didn’t have time to sort or organize. Those boxes have sat in our garage marked “Grandma’s stuff” ever since – until today!!!
Brian is literally doing a happy dance at this very moment. Wooohoooo!!
This is what organized chaos looks like, in case you’re wondering.
We had 5 boxes full of pots and pans – all with their lids in other boxes. I knew we’d have to get them all out to sort and figure out exactly what we have.
I’ve never seen someone with so many pots and pans. No wonder she could feed an army!!!!
And I have no idea how she had it all packed away in their tiny house!!! Gosh, I miss them so much.
We have cookbooks galore.
And then there’s the fabric (there’s actually 3 more boxes of fabric in the garage and 2 more upstairs). We could sort fabric for an entire day, I’m sure.
I purposefully chose our living room to empty out these boxes and sort items because I knew it would force us to finish. We can’t leave all this stuff out – Brock will destroy every stack in a hot minute. And we actually want to sit on our furniture, so that forces us to sort and purge first!
The timing for our big summer purge is perfect. Several people in our neighborhood are going to hold yard sales this coming Saturday morning. Our dining room table has become the yard sale table and we’ll be able to price everything this week and take it straight out to the driveway on Saturday morning.
We live in St. John’s Forest off Hwy 84 for you locals. Come on out and search through our worldly treasures, hahah.
Joy and Chloe won’t be getting bored anytime soon. We’re also tackling the upstairs closets. This could be the year the Haiglers finally get organized, y’all!!!!!!
Enlist friends or teenagers in your family to help with big purging projects – especially those that love to organize (aka Chloe). Pick a sorting location in your home that forces you to keep going, like your living room or kitchen. If you use a guest room or a formal area that is barely used, you won’t feel the pressure to finish as quickly as possible.
