It’s the first #slowitdownSunday of the month and I have a reminder on my calendar to sit down and make my August prayer list.
How about you?
Have you ever had an intentional prayer strategy?
It sounds complicated, but I promise you it’s not. Simply put, I need all the help I can get to remember and organize the people and situations I want to pray for in my life.
Over the past year I’ve adopted several ways to be intentional in my prayers. If you’ve never considered anything like this – I challenge you to try one or two of the ideas below this week. It could be exactly what you need to start a fire in your prayer life.
#1 – a monthly prayer list
I like to keep my list nearby where I will see it often – in my purse, above the kitchen sink or in my journal. Here is a free printable you can use to cover different areas and topics for prayer.
#2 – prayer themes for each day
I have an alert on my calendar each morning to pray for a certain item. Here is an example of my daily prayer list –
Monday – friends
Tuesday – our future property
Wednesday – our Church
Thursday – our business/team/clients
Friday – our family
Saturday – our marriage
Sunday – my writing/blog/readers
#3 – 5 things I’m grateful for
Each night before I go to sleep I grab my journal and write 5 things I’m grateful for. The items I list cannot be items I’ve listed before, so I’m always looking for something new to be thankful for. I got this idea from reading One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp.
#4 – writing one page of prayer request each night
Below the grateful list each night in my journal, I list prayer requests that have come to my attention that day or people and situations that are on my mind. I don’t make this complicated or drawn out. I simply make a list and call those names in prayer. This habit has been the number one way I’ve committed to praying every day and remembering those things and people in my life that need prayer.
Prayer changes things. Prayer changes me. Prayer is the one thing I can bring to God every single day, regardless of my situation or circumstances.
