#slowitdownSunday / what is the reaction when you walk into the room?

the daily Starr slow it down Sunday

My dad said something during the sermon at church this morning that stuck out in my mind.

"What is the reaction of others when you walk into the room?"

Do you bring along discouragement or encouragement wherever you go?

Have you thought about this recently?

Let’s continue this discussion with illustrations (aka gifs), because really, that’s wayyyy more fun and you’ll be more apt to remember this long after reading. #truth

What happens when you walk into the room?

{SHOCK}

{UNBELIEF}

{MIND-BLOWN}

{MAYBE A BIT SCARED}

{EYE ROLLING}

{MUST.RUN.AWAY.NOW.}

Or, is there pure excitement?

YESSS!!!

My personal favorite is this Carlton Christmas sweater dance. This might be what I do when I walk into a store in July that has a Christmas tree!!

Y’all know how much I love Christmas!!

In all seriousness, we have the opportunity each day to decide which one we’ll bring with us into the room : discouragement or encouragement.

One of my college professors challenged us on this same topic and used this illustration I’ve never forgotten.

In life there are 2 kinds of people - basement people and balcony people.

Basement people = those that constantly pull you down and discourage.

Balcony people = those that constantly lift you up and encourage.

Which one will you be?

If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. Romans 12:8 NLT
