#1wordwednesday / celebrating {1,000} days of the daily starr YAY!!!

the daily Starr blog Starr haigler 8

Last night I hit publish on my blog post and an alert popped up on my phone immediately (see the bottom alert):

Holy moly!!! 1,000 posts on the Daily Starr????

This blog is almost 3 years old and I’ve missed only a handful of days.

I read somewhere that you have to spend 10,000 hours to be an expert in something. If I average an hour per blog post, that means I’m only a tenth of the way to being an expert, ha!

1,000 is certainly a significant milestone and that deserves a celebration.

My mind was spinning all day of ways we could celebrate as a family and somehow incorporate what this blog has been about from the beginning – giving back.

It’s no secret we have too much stuff. So, I picked the kids up at 4:30 from summer camp and issued a challenge: collect 1,000 items from our house to giveaway – today!

Kylie’s first question, “Are we going to giveaway all our toys???”

No, Kylie. We’ve already purged those this year hahahah!

We started going through the house and collecting items – clothes, toys (some we had already set aside to donate a few months ago), household items, etc.

In case you’re wondering, this is what 1,122 items look like.

Full disclosure – some of those were crayons that the girls counted and sorted. I had to keep them busy and distracted while I added things to bags!

We loaded everything into the back of our car and took off.

Part of our celebration was to surprise some of our friends with little bags of happiness as we dropped off items to donate or giveaway.

Of course, I couldn’t give away ALL the doughnuts…we saved one bag for us on the way home!

Our afternoon of deliveries was an absolute blast. I can’t think of any better way to celebrate than teaching our kiddos to let go of stuff we don’t need.

Part of our plan was to drop off donations to a local church that is supporting victims of an apartment fire in Charlotte with over 100 people displaced. FYI: Currently the church is not accepting anymore donations for this cause until they are able to process and see what is needed.

Instead, I’ll be dropping our remaining items off tomorrow at several Christian ministries we support in town.

Lastly, I say thank you.

Thank you for reading. Thank you for sharing your comments and stories. Thank you for coming along on this crazy daily adventure with our family. Here’s to the next 1,000 days of learning, growing and giving back.

  1. I have been so blessed by you and your great advice, makeovers, and encouragement! It reminded me in the Bible when Jesus spoke of the talents or gifts He gives us and how we are to use them wisely and multiply them! No doubt you are doing this! Thank you! One day He will show you just how many lives you have touched!โ™กโ™กโ™ก
