#trashouttuesday / don’t knock it ’til you try it!

the daily Starr trash out tuesday

I’ll admit – I was totally skeptical of this whole folding method from Marie Kondo.

She wrote the bestselling book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up.

I’ve already read the book one time all the way through and now I’m going back to create my game plan for tackling our own house of clutter. We’ve implemented small concepts and they really seem to be working. Now I’m ready to do bigger and better things.

Marie shares how the Japanese are a people who value and know the secret of folding their clothing, while we Americans seem to think everything would be better hanging up. The truth is, there are wayyyy more efficient ways to use our closets if we learn to fold correctly.

I watched the video – over and over…

And today – we folded.

No one is more happy for summer break than me!!! That means Joy and Chloe are over here more and they are helping get our laundry caught up (for the FIRST TIME IN FOREVER).

Our first place to tackle was Kayla’s closet because it will be the easiest in our house. Kayla has plenty of closet space when all of her clothes aren’t clean, hahahah! But the minute we catch up on laundry her clothes start overflowing out of her closet.

I forgot to take a good before photo, but here’s part of her baskets where there was no organization and we couldn’t fit all of the items where they belonged.

The jeans just spilled down below into random baskets.

Now, all of the jeans fit nicely and the sweatshirts too!

Y’all. I’m officially a believer. This stuff works.

We even taught Kayla how to fold properly!

How does she look so grown up???

The key is to make your clothes fold into a small fold that will stand up on its own. Then, they fit nicely into drawers.

Here are all of her drawers properly folded and organized. Let’s all just stop for a hot minute and rejoice that there are drawers that look like this in MY HOUSE!!!! WHUUUUT????

\

Now we have an entire bin empty inside her closet and room on the racks!!

Seriously. Go try it out. Take one item – like tshirts. The folding gets faster as you go and you’ll be amazed at how much more you can fit into your drawers and shelves when things are folded properly.

If you need us we’ll be loving and thanking our clothes as we fold. JUST KIDDING ON THAT!!
