#1wordwednesday / 1 simple family {TRADITION} we stopped doing – in 5 min or less

We’re continuing our simple everyday family {traditions} in 5 minutes or less on the blog for today’s #1wordwednesday.

Instead of this being a tradition we started it’s more of something we stopped.

We stopped having the television on during dinner.

Now our tradition is to play music and actually talk to each other.Β  Pretty genius, right? HA!

Our living room and kitchen are one big room so it’s easy to forget and leave the television on when we sit down to eat.

I can instantly tell when this happens because our kids are distracted and their eyes cannot stay away from whatever is on the TV. They cannot carry on a conversation and that is super important to us. We love eating dinner together and talking about our day.

Most often during dinner, this is what we have playing softly in the background (because my children also have a habit of smacking loudly and it drives me crazy):

Yes, that’s right. Christmas music. It makes us happy, so why not??

Go ahead, give it a try and turn the TV off during dinner. You’ll be surprised at how such a small change can have such big benefits for you and your family.

By the way, we’re still at youth camp this week so the blog may or may not come daily depending on my chance to stop for a few minutes and type πŸ™‚
