We’ve spent this long weekend at home – and goodness y’all, it was soooo good! We had no plans to be anywhere, no where to rush back and forth to.
All I kept thinking today was, “We need to do this more often.”
Note to self. Indeed.
Sunday night we invited the youth and young adults from our church over for a time of fellowship. We haven’t opened our home up to a big group of people since January, so it was way overdue.
That means we cleaned on Saturday. Anybody else have a habit of cleaning just before people come over?? Sometimes I plan for people to come JUST so we will have a kick in the pants and motivation to clean. Works every time.
Not only did we clean, we cleaned OUT. As in cleaned out the garage. Brian took an entire truck load full of goodies to our local Goodwill store. We sat items by the road for people to pick up for free. We even kept our neighborhood site busy with posts of items for sale and made a few bucks! Wooohooo!
And I didn’t take a single photo of anything for this blog!!! Oooops. Oh well, trust me when I say we made progress and it was fantastically beautiful to let go of stuff we don’t need. I mean, a truck FULL of donations….this is a miracle, people.
Now it’s time for #makeovermonday and tonight I’m sharing with you 3 promises I’m making to myself for makeovers going forward.
Promise #1 – I will finish a project before moving on to another
This house is full of projects that are half finished or in progress. I have a habit of starting and not finishing things (this is one of my major struggles in life). No more. I’m sticking to a project until it’s done, no matter how long it takes.
My current project: the playroom
Promise #2 – I will not rush a project just to finish or make a deadline on my blog
Sometimes I realize that I’m rushing a project just to get it up on the blog for a deadline. These deadlines are self imposed and I’ve realized this is just plain silly. Why am I rushing?? No more. I’m going to take my time, even if I don’t finish in time to have a feature on the blog. Slowing down will give me time to make my projects the best they can be and to be truly happy with the results. Sometimes I find myself settling for something that isn’t ideal just because I’m pushed for time. That is getting old and creates double work because ultimately I think, “Oh, I’ll fix it later.” Then I’m right back to problem #1 of not finishing projects…it’s a vicious cycle for this makeover queen.
Promise #3 – I will not buy ANYTHING else for a makeover in this home for a longgggg time
I’ve known for a long time that we have too much stuff. Cleaning out this weekend drastically reiterated that fact. The amount of home decor items I have stored in this house is enough to open my own store immediately. Not joking.
For the unforeseen future, I will not be purchasing anything for my makeovers. Everything I use will be from our current inventory. This is actually a fun challenge – what can I use to shop our house and refresh our spaces?
Now – because it is actually #makeovermonday and I spent the day here with my family, this is what you get:
