You might remember a few months ago when we purged our 100+ DVD collection:
I can happily say we haven’t missed a single one of those we donated to Kylie’s preschool – yayyyy!
As we gathered all of our DVDs from around the house and the cars, it became apparent that keeping these silly cases made no sense whatsoever! What a waste of space – and believe me, with 3 kids – the DVDs never get put back in the correct case anyway, haha! It’s like a great treasure hunt to actually find the movie you want to watch.
We put all of our movies into my old CD case from high school that I proudly toted around in my 1987 Mustang listening to all the greatest hits of the 1990s. I was sooo cool, obviously.
I was ready to trash all of the DVD cases but Brian felt we might need them one day…
For once – let’s all talk about the fact that I wanted to trash something and Brian thought we should keep it! That NEVER happens in this house, people.
Those cases have been boxed up for months in the garage and I made the executive decision that they should be put out with the recyclables for trash pick up day. YAYYY, STARRRRLETTA!!!! You go girl, with your bad organizin’ self (I’m virtually giving you a fist pump right now, btw).
As we’ve continued our toy purge and mission to find an assigned place for every item our family decides to keep, we came across our Wii Games.
Yep, more cases. Just lovely.
We are out of storage space in my 1990s CD case and finding a place to keep and store these game cases is not happening.
So, I ordered another case that holds 72 CDs on Amazon for $12.
All of our old cases are now sitting in the recycle tub for pick up tomorrow night! I’m secretly laughing inside thinking about the people that ride through neighborhoods like ours on trash pick up nights to rummage and get valuable items. Imagine them riding up on our box of cases thinking they’ve hit the JACKPOT!!! Juuuuusttt kidddingggg.
WIN: All of our CDs, DVDs and games are combined into these compact holders – great for traveling in the car too! AND there is one less box in our garage. Let’s just shout for a minute about that.
All I can think is, “Why didn’t we do this 10 years ago???
If you struggle with clutter like our family, start with one item and collect every single thing you own of that item from around the house – such as DVDs. Once you’ve purged and decided what to keep, think about what makes the most sense for organizing and storage. You may be surprised at how much space you can free up around your home by doing this simple task. Also, don’t feel the need to go out and buy storage containers. We started with what we had – hello, 90s DVD case!!
