#makeovermonday / a tiny 800 sq ft fixer upper that will blow your mind

the daily Starr makeover monday blog

Anyone local to the Charlotte area might remember my friend, Gary, the afternoon radio show host for New Life 91.9.

Wow, do I ever miss our 91.9!!!

2 years ago, Gary and his wife decided to undertake a MAJOR fixer upper project on a tiny 800 square foot home.

I remember driving up for the first time thinking to myself, “Oh goodness, do they know what they are getting themselves into????”

Well, obviously they sure did!!! Y’all. This tiny fixer upper will absolutely blow your mind!

Are you ready?

Why yes, that is the SAME house!

Mind blowing. I told you.

This house was completely gutted – new walls, new roof, new siding, new pretty-much-everything-that-can-be-new.

There aren’t many folks we know willing to take on this kind of project. They absolutely ROCKED this tiny house and I couldn’t believe my eyes – it was like walking into a Southern Living magazine feature!

Here we go – for today’s #makeovermonday project, I’m thrilled to take you on a tour of this adorable 2 bedroom, 2 bath, tiny cottage fixer upper. It’s likely my all time favorite fixer upper ever. Be warned, you’re gonna want to pack your stuff up and move in immediately.

By the way, those are IKEA cabinets!!

There was a little carport and they decided to convert it into a living area that counts as a bedroom (it has a closet).

Even the laundry room is adorable!

I could have stayed ALL DAY LONG at their home! As we were driving away, I told Brian how this space inspired me to come home and get rid of everything we have to simplify and create an oasis for our family. By the way, I’m working on doing that – now more than ever!

Their home did something for my soul – it made me walk a little slower, breathe a little deeper and feel peace deep down.

I don’t feel that at our home very much, ha!

Well – I hate to burst your bubble if you’re like me and ready to pack your bags and move in…

These photos were actually taken by yours truly because they decided to list their home on the market and sell! Not to our surprise, it sold within the first day with 8-10 offers and many above asking price.

You can read more about their story and few more behind the scenes looks via their daughter’s blog – Nesting Place.

Thank you, Gary and Brenda, for allowing us to be part of your story! We can’t wait to see where your next adventures lead.

  3. Starr! Were the good old days actually only 2 years ago? Oh my. And the house? Brenda did all the decorating. I said “let’s move this wall” and mowed the grass. You know the biggest benefit from a project like this? You go on an adventure together, and you learn you can overcome big obstacles and that there’s always a way. It gives you real confidence in life for how dead things can be redeemed. Thanks for being such an encouragement!
