#funfriday / this 9 year old earned a CELEBRATION

the daily Starr fun friday

Here we are on another exciting #funfriday adventure!! Aren’t y’all glad the weekend is HERE???!!!??

Everybody raised their hands and said, “YES!”

This girl right here, she earned a celebration in her honor this afternoon.

3rd grade is no joke.

I have friends with kids that tackled 3rd grade before our family and I truly didn’t believe them. They said it was tough and hard and lots and lots and lots of work – work unlike you’ll see in the grades before. Oh, ok.

Now. We. Are. Here.

If you don’t have a 3rd grader yet, ohhhhh, consider this your warning.

In NC, EOG (End of Grade) testing begins in 3rd grade and the math and reading comprehension are enough to make mamas and daddys alike go C R A Z Y!!!

Honestly, Brian deals with homework most days, so I have to admit I’m not as crazy as he is. πŸ™‚

Kayla has been struggling over the past few months with reading. We’ve tried various tactics to prepare her for the testing that is ahead in the coming weeks and all I can say is thank goodness for online reading programs that give practice tests to prepare!

Today was reading day and her weekly test. Kayla’s teacher allowed her to call us with the great news –

SHE GOT a 100 on today’s reading test!!!

We’re so stinking proud of her hard work to come this far!! It hasn’t been easy. This calls for a celebration.

Sweet Frog style –

They even had a deal today celebrating Cinco de Mayo and you could fill a bowl for $5.55.

We NEVER let them do this, y’all.

Needless to say, the 4 of us left Sweet Frog a little more miserable than we arrived.

And these photos of Brian and Kylie sum up how we felt after eating too much candy and sugar.

Happy weekending, y’all.

  1. Congrats to Kayla. After teaching for eons I can say you are exactly correct! in the K, 1, 2, we gave them all the beginning skills then in 3 the are expected to put all that together and become overnight geniuses! so very glad she is on her way!
