#slowitdownSunday / there’s just something about that Name

the daily Starr slow it down Sunday

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
There’s just something about that name
Master, Savior, Jesus
Like the fragrance after the rain
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
Let all heaven and earth proclaim
Kings and kingdoms shall all pass away
But there’s something about that name

This has always been one of my favorite songs. I have memories of hearing my mom and dad sing this when I was a little girl in church.

And now I have memories of hearing my dad play a beautiful arrangement on his trumpet.

If you’re on Facebook, maybe you’ve already seen this video I shared earlier in the week. You can just watch it again because it’s just beautiful!!

If not, a little background – my dad was a band director before he became a Pastor and my early childhood days were spent going to concerts, Friday night football games and the sorts.

This past week dad entered a national senior adult talent competition through our church and he placed runner up in the brass category with this arrangement of There’s Something About That Name.

The accompanist is a long time family friend, Joyce Miles. Joyce and her husband Doug knew mom and dad when they were newlyweds. I’ve heard so many stories over the years of their fun times together. Thank you, Joyce, for joining with dad on this piece and for encouraging him to get involved with the Western North Carolina Church of God senior adult choir.

A beautiful rain fell this afternoon on the way home from church and like that fragrance after the rain, oh Lord Jesus, fall fresh on us tonight as we #slowitdownSunday.

So very proud of you, dad! Thank you for continually using your talent to glorify God!
