Several weeks ago one of my blog readers forwarded over an idea for our kiddos using bananas to make kid sushi rolls! How fun does that sound???
Here’s the original idea she sent from the Clean Food Crush blog (if you wanted to see how a real professional does this, ha):
Tonight we had plans for dinner out with long time friends, but all 3 of our kiddos are under the weather. Instead, we ended up at home watching the Secret Life of Pets on Netflix and making our own version of banana sushi rolls using whatever I could find in the pantry annnnnd borrowing bananas from my mom and dad across the street!
Here are the ingredients we used:
2.5 ripe bananas – from mom and dad
1 half frozen banana
2 grab and go trail mix/nut packets from Trader Joe’s
We keep these awesome snack packets on hand to eat for a quick, healthy snack. They include dried cranberries, cashews, walnuts, almonds, yogurt bites and chocolate chips.
I used the frozen banana because that’s what I had on hand. It was a lot messier to decorate, but I love frozen bananas, so I ate that one. If you’re doing this at home, the room temperature bananas were easier and if they are less ripe, that is better as well because the toppings will spread easier. The blog above says to decorate and then freeze. We didn’t have time for that.
I also decided to add chocolate chips as a topping after taking the photo above.
Before starting, I took the yogurt bites and nuts and crushed them inside sandwich bags using a stainless spoon.
First, I covered the top of my banana with Nutella.
Then, I added crushed nuts and chocolate chips.
Lastly, cut into slices.
Again, mine was messier because it was frozen and I had it setting out on the counter for about 10 minutes before beginning. Still, it was so yummy!!
Now it was time for the girls to make their own banana sushi rolls.
Kayla went for Nutella, Kylie wanted peanut butter.
Then, they added the toppings of their choice.
And they turned out great!
This was a super easy snack you can make using what you have on hand in the pantry (or, what your parents have in their pantry if you’re like us, hahah!).
Thank you for sending this #funfriday idea our way, Tracey!
Now, we’re gonna snuggle up and rest! Happy weekending!
