#1wordwednesday / we’re all {BROKEN} people

the daily Starr blog Starr haigler 8

God is teaching me something specific lately:

we’re all {BROKEN} people.

Yep, just like the cracks on our iPhones – our lives can instantly be shattered and broken all over the floor.

No one is immune from this brokenness and many times I find it happens whether we like it or not. We can do everything in our power to stay away, but broken we become.

Lately, God has been giving me glimpses into the broken world around me.

Broken relationships

Broken promises

Broken health

Broken futures

Broken trust

Broken faith

Some of these experiences have been in my own life, but many have been found in the eyes and hearts of those in my path. I’ve sat across the table with friends who’ve poured out their own brokenness. I’ve asked the tough questions that no one wants to ask of friends that feel like they are at the end of their rope. I’ve cried so many broken tears lately.

And I’ve asked God, “Why??”

Lord, why all this brokenness? Why now? Why them? Why are you leading me to these broken places? I feel so helpless, Lord.

In my spirit I feel He has given me an answer –

My child – if you want to build a place to welcome the broken and help reclaim lives and marriages and families – then you must know what it truly means to be broken. Learn now and get prepared to serve the broken.

No, I didn’t hear God actually say that out loud to me.

I feel Him urging me to pay attention. I feel Him calling me to love when I’d rather not and show grace when life gets uncomfortable.

He has called us to share that brokenness is not the end!

THIS is our hope –

The LORD is near to the brokenhearted And saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18

Yes. Yes, He is. He is near. He saves us when we feel crushed and overwhelmed in our spirit. He can use our brokenness to teach us, to heal us, to actually use us for His glory. We can be broken vessels, filled with His Spirit – to change the world!

Do you feel broken? You’re not alone. In fact, we’re all desperately broken.

Today I declare, let this be the theme song for all the broken people.

All these pieces
Broken and scattered
In mercy gathered
Mended and whole
Empty handed
But not forsaken
I’ve been set free
I’ve been set free

Amazing grace
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me,
ooo, oh I once was lost
But now I am found
Was blind but now I see
Oh I can see it now
Oh I can see the love in Your eyes
Laying Yourself down
Raising up the broken to life

You take our failure
You take our weakness
You sit Your treasure
In jars of clay
So take this heart,
Lord I’ll be Your vessel
The world to see Your life in me,

oh Amazing grace
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me,
ooo, oh I once was lost
But now I am found
Was blind but now I see
Oh I can see it now
Oh I can see the love in Your eyes
Laying Yourself down
Raising up the broken to life

  1. Thank you for sharing thank you for true word God has laid. This on my heart for a while now. The story in the. Bible this man only job was to watch the King don’t let him out of his sight there was a war and he was sappose to watch the King but while he was sappose to be watching him 24 hrs a day he was trying to help others. The king King got away a lot of people were killed because he was just trying to do good What am I saying you are prob thinking. Sometimes we focus on doing good too much we loose sight on what we really are. Sappose to do we don’t mean to it’s just seen like he saying it’s good we serve him and try to listen but me my mind wonders my heart gets heavy over so much going on in the world . I hope this made some sense I’m not good at try to say what I mean. I really appreciate. All that you do you are such an inspiration. To me. God Bless you. We love y’all

  2. Yes we are all broken, some just more recently than others. Some breaks seem unfixable, BUT GOD, don’t you just love to hear those two words! Psalm 34:18 says the Lord is close to the brokenhearted. I can tell you that this verse is the absolute truth. Starr, what a wonderful word for you. What a great conformation. Thanks for sharing. Thanks for the great song to ice the cake!
