#1wordwednesday / you have been granted a {WISH}

Brian and I have been doing a free daily devotional from the Bible App called, Refresh Your Marriage in 31 Days:

Disclosure: the authors are obviously not from our country and the words are a little weird and wonky at times in this devotional. Overall, we really like it – but just be warned and keep this in mind when reading, ok?

One of the devotionals has stuck in my mind LONG after reading and is the topic of today’s #1wordwednesday: {WISH}

Day 8:

“You have been granted a wish”

Your partner is not a mind reader, unless he’s Mel Gibson in the movie “What Women Want”. This is why you have to express your wishes and expectations. Otherwise, according to Solomon, you will become sick, and all you will be thinking is: “What I want is crystal clear.” Remember, glass can also be murky.

We have both made it a rule to clearly say what we envisage and what we expect on a daily basis. This rule, in contrast to the offside rule, makes incredible sense. It helps us enormously to understand each other.

My wife is the most important person to me. Therefore, I want to know how she wants me to look. Hairstyle, clothes and moustache should primarily please her. And if you’re reading this now –is it more likely for Jesus to come down to earth than her finding your moustache cool? What have you been longing for in and for your marriage for a long time? Are these wishes realistic in your partner’s point of view? What are the next steps?

MARRIAGE-BOOSTER
Create a nice wish list. Instead of addressing it to Father Christmas, send it to your beloved. Start by writing down what gifts you can give. You can grant wishes.

From the Refresh Your Marriage in 31 Days devotional by Leo and Susanna Bigger

The night we read this devotional, I immediately looked at Brian and said, “What’s your #1 wish, babe?”

I don’t think I was prepared for his answer.

“A clean bedroom.”

Sayyy whuuut????

I mean, really. #1??

Yes.

Brian has always been the neater of the 2 of us, but I didn’t know my clutter bothered him so. Our master bedroom is such a catch all and I’m horrible about creating piles of clothes and stuff. Everywhere.

Our room is far from the oasis we both long to have at the end of a long day.

Then, the worst part is this: it took me almost an entire month to actually get our room clean again after knowing this valuable information. That’s horrible!!!

I realized last week that I had been allowing so many other things to come before prioritizing my husband. And they were good things, don’t get me wrong. Work. Family. Life.

But He told me his #1 wish and I hadn’t done anything about it.

That’s a problem.

Last week I finally set aside a few hours to completely focus on our room and prioritize my husband.

It rocked his world….hahahah!

One week later, I set aside time in my day to keep it picked up and put away those things that just magically seemed to appear from around the house. I’m going to make this a priority on my calendar going forward because I truly care about my husband.

How about you?

Have you made a {WISH} list or asked for a wish list from those that are most important in your life?

Do it. You might be surprised at the answers. And those that love you most can’t read your mind, so give a little help and tell them what matters most.

Sit down today and create a wish list for the most important people or person in your life. Ask them to do the same and then exchange lists and talk about your answers.

Don’t stop there.

Act on those wishes. Become a wish granter and see how you can make the most important people in your life a priority!
