#thirstythursday / the courage to dream and doing things that scare you silly

the daily Starr thirsty thursday

Have you spent time dreaming lately?

I mean REALLY dreaming.

Are you responding to that little tug at your heart strings from God to follow what He’s created you to do??

It takes courage to dream.

Simple Blessings Devotional by Helen Freeman-Smith

I’ve been dreaming a lot over the past few years and I feel like God has given me an idea of what’s next for our family in this adventure called life.

And it scares me, not gonna lie.

Once you find the courage to dream – well, acting on those dreams is an ENTIRELY different ballgame.

For weeks I’ve been putting off taking that next step – because, well – there were so many what ifs, and distractions, and scenarios going through my head.

What if I look dumb?

What if they say no?

What if I have to start all over?

What if…what if…what if….

I’m not usually an anxious or nervous person, but this one thing was getting to me. It wouldn’t leave me alone, no matter how hard I tried.

God just kept showing up – and it was hard to ignore Him. Everywhere I turned the past few days there were messages about getting stuff done and doing things you’ve been putting off and following your dreams.

Okay. Okay. Okay, God.

I can’t control the outcomes and I have no idea what will happen, but today I obeyed.

I wrote a letter, shared my heart and left it in God’s hands.

I did it.

And I survived!!! Hahah.

Our dreams are big. So big that sometimes I laugh because we’re pretty much crazy.

This will ONLY be God, y’all.

Grounding ourselves in His word is the only way to follow hard after God and listen for His direction.

So, how about you?

What is God stirring within your heart? What are your dreams? What is that next step – big or small – that you can take to obey?

I’m leaving you with this verse tonight:

Where there is no vision, the people perish… Proverbs 29:18 KJV

If you don’t know what the vision is – ask Him. I promise, He’ll answer – possibly in ways you could never imagine.

PS – this little devotional book is one of my very favorites. It’s called Simple Blessings by Helen Freeman-Smith.

I just realized tonight that I gave this devotional to Glennie the Great on her last birthday here on earth. I sure do miss her!!

  1. I think I know what I should be doing and I keep putting off because it terrifies me but I’m going to tak a huge leap of faith start working in a place that I know God has been putting on my heart for so long. Please pray for me as I approach this person about wanting to help.

    • That’s exciting, Maggie! I’ll be praying for God to reveal what is ahead in His time. Asking that He shows you the path to take and opens up opportunities before you each and every day!

  2. Same here! I am watching and waiting for the big reveal. I get the sense that God’s plan is just around the corner, just out of my sight. Honestly, sometimes it’s easy to believe that I’m standing in the middle of the road alone, dodging cars, waiting for God to remember me. I know that’s not the way He rolls, but wow! it is so hard to be in the waiting…

    • Michelle what a great way to put it. I know as do you God has something for us. I guess we just need to step out of the traffic and into His lap and check out what He has for us! Your not alone out there.
