#shareitsaturday / 5 reasons I’m bringing BANGS back

the daily Starr share it saturday

Let’s step back into time – into the 80s and 90s when Starr was a little girl.

Go ahead, I know you want to zoom in on those photos and laugh.

See the common denominator?? BANGS.

I blame my mom.

This was cute:

This WAS NOT cute:

For years, I could not even face growing my bangs out. We had a love/hate relationship. But, finally during my Senior year of high school, I did it. Goodbye bangs.

And what did I do this past October??

Oh, yes I did.

My mom’s first reaction?? “I can’t believe you got bangs after all the grief you gave me for giving you bangs in your childhood!!”

Ooops.

Brian asked, “Why did you do that?”

Kylie wanted to know when I was going to put them back and told all her friends at school that her mom cut her “veins”.

The reactions of my family were fantastic! Glad I don’t suffer from self-confidence issues, right???

My dad had the best reaction. He told me he liked them and I looked like I was young again. Well, that was after he asked me if it was a wig!!!

I love you, dad.

He was right.

Straight back to 9th grade right here:

It’s taken 3 months, but y’all – I’m in love with my bangs. I finally wear them down most days instead of pulled up in a bobbie pin.

And here are 5 reasons I’m bringing BANGS back:

#1 – You look younger. Take it from my dad. Preacher’s don’t lie.

#2 – You can grow your eyebrows out. Have you noticed that thick eyebrows are in lately?? Well, I’ve got them and for YEARS I’ve plucked my eyebrows almost daily. NOT ANYMORE!! I’ve been growing them suckers out and most people have never noticed. Uni-brows unite.

#3 – Bangs help hide grey hair. I have a head full of grey hair. I get my hair colored consistently every 4-5 weeks. Since having bangs, I hardly even notice when my grey starts growing in. This is HUGE. Because really, grey hair is not cool in your 30s. Goodness, I had it in my 20s!

#4 – You can look like a movie star or a spy.

At one point, I actually had my hair cut very similar to this photo of Katie Holmes. It was right after Brian and I got married (sorry, couldn’t find any photos tonight). I’m pretty sure he secretly wishes I would come home with this haircut every time I go for a hair appointment. He loves shorter hair. I’m like – gosh, I hate fixing hair everyday and a ponytail would be so nice!! Hahah. Joy calls me Spy Starr nowadays.

#5 – You be YOU. Hair is hair. It will grow back if you cut it. What fun is life if you never try something new or different? It doesn’t matter if bangs are “in” or “out” per the fashion experts. Find your own perfect style and know that you’re already beautiful. Be YOU and don’t try to be anyone else!

  1. My hardest time is with my hair..Uuggg I am never content!. You said to never try to be someone else, well I have pics in my phone right now of a friend’s style, that I will take to my next appointment.
I think it comes from my mom giving me a bowl cut when I was little or a pixie cut, which ever you please.
Anyway, I keep looking for something that is easy to do on deployments that I will be satisfied with. Hair…Grrrr.
