This last year in church ministry has been a difficult one for me. I watched as several close friends within our small congregation left for various reasons. These were friendships that ran tight and I honestly never expected to be doing life without. Change is never easy, amen?
In the midst of a hard season that felt like the chill of winter, I did the only thing I knew to do – trust God and His plan.
I didn’t understand why He chose to move people out of our lives. I didn’t like it either, but I didn’t really have a choice.
All I could do was pray that God would send others to fill the gaps where those friendships once bloomed. It’s been hard to navigate this tough winter in my soul.
Have you been there too?
Seasons of winter can be hard.
The chilling cold that consumes every part of our being.
Barren trees that show no sign of life.
Just when we think the darkness may consume us, there’s one thing that always happens after a long winter season.
Sometimes it takes the beauty and miracle of spring to realize something we could never see in the darkness of winter.
We’ve actually made it through and now we’re stronger than we ever believed.
The darkness did not linger forever.
The blooms returned.
And we survived!!
God is so faithful to restore and give us exactly what we need, in His perfect timing. How do I always forget that and doubt??
(to my friend, Michelle – I’ve needed this verse more than you’ll ever know!)
Through this difficult season, I’ve learned how to depend on Him and seek Him more. Just maybe, that’s exactly why He allowed me to go through this long winter.
After all the kiddos from Children’s Church found their parents this morning, I lingered for a few moments sweeping the goldfish crumbs and juice box wrappers into the dust pan. Just as I was finishing up, a friend walked in with a gift box.
And in that box, I found this bracelet.
It says, “Stronger than you believe”.
That friend had no idea how she’s part of God restoring friendship in my life. She’s an answer to prayer in more ways than she’ll ever know.
And I’m so very thankful to finally be seeing the beauty of Spring.
