#1wordwednesday / already failed at your new year’s resolutions? do this instead: pick one word

the daily Starr blog Starr haigler 8

Each year, I start the new year WITHOUT a bunch of resolutions. I’ve never been good at keeping those past January 3rd anyways.

Instead, I choose just 1 wordone word that represents what I most hope God will do in my life, and focus on it for the entire year.

My 1 word for 2017:

the-daily-starr-1-word-wednesday-one-word-for-2017

Seek.

Specifically, in these ways:

+ seek God first in every way, everyday

+ seek land to build our business and ministry

+ seek instead of strive

+ seek to encourage and lift up, rather than tear down

+ seek to be intentional and purposeful with my 24 hours each day

+ seek to find gratitude daily, no matter the circumstances

The key verses I’ve selected to remind me of my word this year are:

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. “For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Matthew 7:7-8

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33

“Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise, therefore, and build the sanctuary of the LORD God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD and the holy vessels of God into the house that is to be built for the name of the LORD.” 1 Chronicles 22:19

The LORD has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there are any who understand, Who seek after God. Psalm 14:2

“I love those who love me; And those who diligently seek me will find me. Proverbs 8:17

‘You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13

One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD And to meditate in His temple. Psalm 27:4

After reading these scriptures, it’s so very clear that God intends for his children to seek.

That I will do, Lord.

  1. My word is Faith. Where there is hope, there is Faith. Where there is Faith, Miracles happen!!! I proclaim this is my year!! I will strive to become closer to God, I will stand up and testify about what my God has brought me through and where I am today!! Without God I would’ve been broken and in dispair but because I trust and believe that my God is with me and loves me I’ve got faith that Whatever is thrown my way I will overcome!!

    • Love that word! Made me think of this verse:

Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. Hebrews 11:1

  2. I do this too! Amazing how it transforms. I discovered this process through my cherished Bible App. 2 years ago. I am so happy to see others doing this. It is so much better than a “list.” This New Year! Praying Blessings for you! Love , gina

  3. I have never picked a word, but I was challenged to do so a couple weeks ago. I chose seek as well. I love how God confirms things! Thank you for your daily encouragement.
