There’s one room in our house that has managed to stay clean for over 2 weeks:
Yes, this is clean in my books!!
Well, when you compare that photo above to what used to be normal for me:
Just keepin’ it real, friends.
It may have something to do with the fact that I’ve been taking a bath every single night so far in 2017. Something about being in a nice clean bathroom is making me feel more calm, more relaxed and just plain good. I should try this with our whole house, ha!
Meanwhile, Brian is all praise hands happy!! I’m sure he’s been secretly praying for this for ages. Praying for a clean bathroom, not me to take baths everyday.
Back to the bathroom counter. Yes, it’s clean, but it still feels pretty cluttered and I’ve been meaning to do something about that.
The items on our counter top are minimal and have been reduced to what we actually use. Still, it doesn’t spark joy inside my heart and scream, “HEY, I’m a gorgeous bathroom!!”
I’ve always been inspired by my favorite hotel, The Old Edwards Inn – and how they have what I consider to be my dream bathrooms. For instance:
I could live in this bathroom. Seriously. Just get me a sleeping bag and I’ll lay right there beside this beauty all night long.
The white cabinets. The marble counter tops. The mirrors. The little lamps lights. The classic gorgeousness. I love it ALL!
And look a little closer – you’ll find a genius idea.
A simple silver tray to keep all of your bathroom clutter.
Target has super cute trays like these and I’ve been tempted to buy one. But really, who needs to spend $20+ on a tray???
I stopped by our local Goodwill today, because I need more junk obviously, and happened to stumble on the section with all the silver goodies – there were so many fun things, y’all! I forgot to take a photo, though. Mainly because I didn’t have a buggy (I went in solely looking for a wool sweater I needed for a project I’m working on). Suddenly I found myself totally distracted from the wool sweaters and here I was rummaging through the various silver pieces. In brilliant Starr fashion I managed to drop several pieces that went flying across the store floor as EVERYONE stopped and stared at me. It was so lovely. Thus, no photos of today’s Goodwill adventure. And here I am leaving the store with an armful of silver…and thinking to myself, “Brian is literally going to kill me for coming home with more stuff!!”
$11 total for all 3 below – one of them is actually real silver, bonus!!
Sure, they are a little beat up and have some scratches. Who cares?? That’s character!
I grabbed my silver polishing stuff that mom bought me about 10 years ago – still a full bottle, >>SHOCKER<<.
I figured I could try the polish even if they weren’t all real silver, what could it hurt?
They cleaned up so well.
Next, I found this little silver bowl in our kitchen to replace the ugly plastic bar soap holder.
Then, I replaced the little paper cup with a real glass for after brushing my teeth. The fancy hotels always have real glasses, why not grab one of ours from the kitchen downstairs??
I decided our toothbrushes are ugly and don’t deserve to be on the counter. To the cabinet below they go.
Alright, and now for the $5 silver serving tray I selected to hold our bathroom clutter:
that’s her before her handy cleaning and polishing
Look at that!! She’s screaming, “I’m so beautiful!!”
This is a simple $5 #makeovermonday project that makes this girl right here happy, happy, happy.
No, we may not have our dream bathroom, but little jewels like $5 serving trays from Goodwill can really help to get a similar look and style for cheap!
AND I have 2 trays to use somewhere else in our house, yipppeee!

Found a look on Pinterest you’d love to make your own or been inspired by your favorite hotel? Remember these simple keys to recreating styles you love on the cheap:
- Take photos and screenshots of elements that make you happy and spark joy in home decor. Pay attention to the details and what specifically makes you smile.
- Don’t always assume you need to go buy all new things to create a new look in your home.
- Shop your house first – what do I have in my home already that could help me to recreate the look or style I’m going for? More times than not, you can shift items around to different areas and it feels like you have new things! Items in the kitchen don’t have to stay there – try them in new places.
- If you do find yourself needing a specific item (like the silver trays for me), keep an eye out at thrift stores to save a ton of money. Buying second hand is almost always possible and is actually fun to see what deals you can get!
