#slowitdownSunday / 2 things to do when you really need answers from God

the daily Starr slow it down Sunday

Have you been there lately – REALLY needing an answer from God?

If you haven’t, you will.

I’ve been there plenty of times before and honestly I’ve been there lately – feeling that something deep down in your heart and soul that needs attention – something that weighs so heavily.

the-daily-starr-slow-it-down-sunday-2-things-to-do-when-you-really-need-answers-from-god

physical healing from sickness
salvation in Jesus Christ
mental healing from depression and anxiety that feels completely overwhelming
freedom from chains of bondage and addictions to be broken
broken relationships to be mended and grudges to be forgotten
a renewed sense of purpose and calling to chase after a dream
healing for your mind, body and soul

Whatever the need is, I’m learning over and over again that the answer can be found in doing these 2 simple things:

#1 – PRAY

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Philippians 4:6 NLT

#2 – FAST

“Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; Joel 2:12 ESV

So many times we do everything BUT the two items listed above.

We tell everyone we know to pray – not a bad thing, but have WE actually prayed and sought God before we ask everyone else to do the same on our behalf? Have we prayed as much as we’ve talked about the situation??

We cry and have a pity party because life is bad and life is hard and life is terrible and nothing ever goes right in my life….woe is me….life is bad, bad, bad…

But –

do we actually turn off the TV, shut down Facebook and spend time talking to God about this thing that we need an answer for? Is the burden heavy enough that we push away the plate and instead fill our belly with seeking God on a regular basis?

For me, that answer is sadly “no” way too often.

Lately, something has been different. I’ve been craving more of Him and less of the distractions. I shouldn’t be surprised at all, that’s actually been my prayer lately – to crave more of Him.

More of Him, less social media.

More of Him, less worry.

More of Him, less blame and justifying.

More of Him, less feeling overwhelmed and like my life will never change.

More of Him, less trying to do it all on my own.

And lately there’s been this insanely heavy burden for a family I know. Only God can turn things around. So much has been broken, so much has been taken. The enemy has come in and it seems like God is no where to be found.

But, I know that isn’t true at all.

And I know exactly what I need to do – pray and fast.

Will you join me this week?

Right now – figure out that one thing you need an answer on. Write it down on a post-it note. Put it beside your bed, on your mirror, in your purse.

Commit to doing these 2 simple things and see exactly what God can do.

  1. Another reason I have shut down FB. I think I said this before , to at least give God as much time if not more than I did FB. What a distraction it has been in my life.
Now, to not fill that time with some other distraction.

    • I agree!! I’ve started making sure I give God time BEFORE I open anything! Many days it is late in the day before I open anything at all. I’ve got to make sure He is the priority. It is so very easy to get distracted with anything!
