One of my friends sent this photo from the Walmart check-out line saying she immediately thought of me:

Say yes to saying no

Did you catch those little words below in blue? They actually spoke to me more than what is on the pillow.

Find more time for the things you love

Time stops for no one. We can embrace the new year and decide that today is a great day to start over, start new, start fresh – start finding time for the things we love.

Here’s the real deal though.

You can’t create time. You can’t add to the 24 hours, oh how I wish I could figure out how to make that happen!!

If you want to do more of the things you love, you have to say yes to saying no.

As I walk into the reality that is 2017, I’m setting goals for how to find more time for those things I love.

I do best by putting my life into buckets or categories. Here are the buckets I’m focusing on making more time for in 2017:

Relationship with God/Church
Family/Home
Dream/Barn
Marriage
Creating/Writing

There’s nothing better than putting your goals out there for others to see and help hold you accountable. That’s exactly what I’m doing here tonight. If anything, Brian can at least hold me to these goals, haha.

By the end of 2017, I want to accomplish the following:

Relationship with God/Church
– quiet time every morning before getting my day started
– write in a prayer journal everyday
– attend weekly prayer time at our church
– find someone to help us teach in our Children’s Church ministry

Family/Home
– Fun Fridays with our kids that are less rushed – 3 Fridays out of each month spent at home instead of going out
– take 1 trip to somewhere we’ve never been as a family
– get rid of the remaining clutter in all of our closets and garage
– invite someone over for dinner at least 1 time per month

Dream/Barn
– finish my business plan outlining our plans for the barn property
– approach land owners about acquiring land for the property and present our business plan
– approach bank/investors about financing for building the barn and annex
– break ground on our new property

Marriage
– pray together each night
– complete the Love Dare devotional book
– have a weekly date night
– review our business and finances together monthly
– get away together alone 4 times in 2017 WITH NO KIDS
– plan an anniversary trip in December
– have more kids (I’M TOTALLY KIDDING…for now…haha)

Creating/Writing
– start my shop that will ultimately be at the barn, Reclamations Shop
– move items that are going to be repurposed to offsite storage and have inventory list of what we have
– continue the Daily Starr blog and introduce a guest writer at least 1 time per month
– write my blog each day before my kids get home so I have more time with them
– move blog website over to be self hosted and figure out text alerts system change (totally technical stuff here for nerds like me!)

There we go! 2017, I’m ready for you.

These goals and buckets will be my filter for figuring out if I should say yes or no to whatever comes my way. I can’t do it all. And I really WANT to find time for these things. This is the way to start – #sayyestosayingno

Have you set goals for the new year? Now is the perfect time. Grab a sheet of paper and a pen now.

Remember these key elements of goal setting:

#1 – Write your goals down. Goals in your head don’t exist. Goals that are written are way more likely to be achieved.

#2 – Tell someone your goals to add accountability. Share with a friend that has similar goals or a coworker. Ask them to have a monthly check in and see how you’re making progress.

#3 – Make your goals simple, specific and measurable. Don’t make this complicated and don’t be vague. Write a goal you can measure and achieve.
